What are the Components of a Digital Pressure Regulator

They come in various forms, shapes and sizes. The accuracy and stability of the regulated pressure depends upon the type and the design of the regulator. A digital air pressure regulator controls the pressure in air supplies and machines. They remove the fluctuations in the air supply and provide consistent pressure. Their key characteristic is to reduce the pressure and stabilize it according to the needs of the system.

Three Main Components of Pressure Regulator:

Digital Pressure Regulators are a huge improvement over the mechanical ones. They are very effective and simple at providing a strong control. In an electronic air pressure regulator, a small inner sensor monitors the output pressure and the digital controller adjusts the output flow of the internal valve. In this way, it retains the required pressure(i.e. closed loop control).

Pressure Reducing Element:

A valve containing spring loaded poppet is the general pressure reducing component of an electro pneumatic regulator. These valves have thermoplastic sealing for the high pressure applications and elastomeric sealing for regular applications. Actually the spring force controls the poppet valve and allows the media to flow. Whenever the outlet pressure increases the poppet valve is closed due to the provided force of the control element so it cannot exceed the set pressure limit.

Sensing Element:

The sensing element is the most essential part of a digital pressure regulator. The contribution of this part is to sense any kind of changes in the downstream pressure of the regulator and inform the control element about these changes. As the gas or liquid passes through the sensor, it detects the fluctuations and generates the information for sending so that it can be controlled precisely and timely. It works as a physical link between the loading element and the control element. Typically there are three main types of the sensing element available, diaphragm, piston and bellows. The most cost effective one is the diaphragm.

Control Element:

A control element of the proportional pressure regulator is the last component. The responsibility of this component is to perform the actual work in the regulator. Meanwhile, it takes the high inlet pressure and decreases it down to a low pressure. This element of the digital pressure regulator gets the information from the sensing element about the fluctuations of the pressure. With this information the control element can easily determine which changes have to be done to maintain a low pressure? It provides the force to the loading element of the electronic pressure regulator that moves the valve to expand or contract the orifice so that the desired flow pressure can be obtained.

Final Thoughts:

A high pressure in the system can cause leaking water heaters, pipes, dripping faucets, and much more. Gas or water running at a high speed can be harmful for you and shorten the life of your machine or equipment. Using a digital pressure regulator, you can maintain a low pressure as per the need of the system that will not only keep your plumbing appliances safe but will also increase their age.
